Still and motion film are very intertwined and often the disciplines of each overlap one another. Where the ways one is taught fall short, the other subject tends to pick up and move forward if that makes sense. Both media require an understanding of lenses, field of view, depth of field, barrel distortion, compression, bokeh, etc. Both media require an understanding of film stocks and how they behave in particular lighting situations and under various exposures and processing methods. Often the compositions taught in Photo and design classes can be applied to cinematography but get left out of the cinematography classes. Understanding the differences between still and motion film will only help you better understand each medium more initmately, particularly on a mechanical level. Both media tell a story and express concepts visually. Their languages are similar and different. Knowing both only puts more arrows in your quiver.

But since you love both, why even question the validity of studying both?! Enjoy, crave knowledge, digest information, experience the world! And share your vision.

Metal and Manual! Film Forever!

First of all, in this day and age, I recommend going digital.

Second, I recommend get a Canon or a Nikon. They are leading the industry.

I don't know you price range, so I can't tell you what's best. If you want a lower end SLR, you should look into the new Nikon D90 or Canon's Digital Rebels.

A great place to read reviews on SLRs and lenses fir them is at dpreview.com

You're putting B before A. Publishers and film-makers have an idea of what they want for artwork. Then they go and find somebody who can produce it. You've got a body of work that you want to show to producers and publishers. But you don't know what their needs are. That's a fundamental disconnect. You need to establish your reputation before you will appear on their radar screens.

There are multiple approaches. Submitting to a stock site is straightforward. However, the odds of being discovered are low. Publishers have conferences where you can rent a booth to display your work. It's costly and your work must be exceptional. I'm not sure if the cinema world has similar opportunities. You should also have your own web site. You might also look into approaching galleries to have your work shown (New York for publishers, Los Angeles for film studios). It's not going to be easy. It could take years of relentless effort and a killer portfolio.

@MuscIeBomber2021 Just so everyone knows, this isn't the real musclebomber. He used a capital "i" to make it look like a lowercase "L" and he is nothing but a troll who wants attention. And seriously, who says "where's the funny?"
